In reading "The Life of Milarepa", I learned how this legendary practitioner sought enlightenment by meditating alone in a mountain cave for many years with no success; nearly staving to death before reaching his goal. He describes living mostly on nettles that grew around the cave. "One night a man came in search of food. He searched the entire cave. I burst out laughing and said, 'Just try to find something in the middle of the night, when I can find nothing even in broad daylight.'"
