Christopher Alexander says an artwork is a living thing. When I see a drawing, I hold his assertion in mind and pay attention to how strong a presence I feel from the work.

The shape that emerged today reminds me of George Ohr, the mad potter of Biloxi. While I always feel Ohr's presence when I stand with his work, now that I am giving space to the idea that an artwork is a living thing, I can appreciate the way the object reflects the potter but speaks with its own voice.

A river envisioned as the flowing, emergent result of the intertwined relationship of two bodies of land at the place where their waters meet.

Rising waves, muscles contracting, hearing stories, accepting the movement, not getting pulled in and not looking away, and I'm holding simultaneous views of attention and awareness, I mean, I am that point of view.

Awash in summer heat,
High on humidity,
Insect larvae stop
Swimming in the the rain bucket,
Leaves curl,

And even indefatigable spirits
Rest quietly in the afternoon shade.

Circular and spherical variations are becoming persistent in the daily drawings and I'll be sharing a lot more of these types of drawings in the next few days. I have even begun to make up explanations, guesses about what this form symbolizes and why it is appearing. My story ideas range from seeing the drawings as diagrams of internet driven accelerating globalization to them being maps of the shifts in collective hope triggered by the newly discovered (sort of nearby) exoplanet. I invite you to give me your variations on this theme and email me a story about the planetary drawings from your perspective - hey, maybe this collective storytelling is what these images are all about?
