October 2019

The Drawing Bee prompt tonight was 'good shapes' but for me the challenge was to get out of my comfort drawing zone, let my hand wander, accept the results, and consider any adverse reaction. An enjoyable hour unfolded as these vase-like shapes emerged and I worked on shading and lighting. I find it very liberating to draw and notice judgement, facilitating flow by letting go. If anyone wants to join in a Drawing Bee, we are online every Tuesday at 9pm EST - email me with questions or read more here: iclock.com/draw Everyone draws whatever they like from their own space, no one is obligated to show but we offer a lot of support and encouragement to do something creative.

Setting out on this damp autumn morning, toe tips chilled inside leaky shoes, sniffing like my dog the hints of rotting leaves mixing with fresh dew, I noticed coming from high in a hickory tree the persistent cry of a hawk, and a passing thought, "that's the hawk," was enough to launch a reverie that lasted for the rest of the walk.
