Vibing the day

5.17.2026

When we had two consecutive nights of freezing temperatures after an unseasonable warm spell, all of the newly-budded, tiny pale leaves on the two oak trees in our backyard turned brown. I was concerned that the trees were going to have to rebud and I couldn't imagine they would have the energy to do that. A few branches here and there, maybe 10 leaves, grew to full size in the next three weeks without any other change but the brown baby leaves didn't fall off either. Then last week, the weather warmed up and green started rising. The leaves were changing color. Today in full sun the baby leaves are green and growing. I said to my wife, "This is why oak trees live for hundreds of years."
